"This court session has begun."
"Mr Lucent, do you swear by this Bible, to speak the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? "
" I Do"
"Very well then, tell us your story."
"Son, whatever you do, do not let your friend become your enemy, because if he does, he'll know where to strike and it'll hurt, because he knows you." That was what mama used to say, and I guess that sounded feasible, when I was 12. Do all the right things, apologize when you're at fault, and apologize when you're not at fault. Don't let your ego grow too big, because if it does, it'll crush the good thing you have with your friend. Always communicate, communication is the master key, without it, the relationship grows old, withers and dies. Do all these things and remember that, relationships are about what you put into it, and not what you get out of it.
Oh! God bless mama's heart. She was wise, when she was around, and she spoke the truth. At least, what things were true to her then. She didn't know that when little boys grow up, they do not grow into men. Sadly, they become animals. How was she to know that, the rules that guided us back then, do not apply now? I asked Charley of his opinion on the matter, and he said, "Forget everything mama told you, there's only one rule that guides us now, and it is, In the game of love, There Are No Rules."
I liked this rule better, it meant that in this game, there was only going to be one winner. I hadn't lost a game before, and I didn't plan on losing this one, that would go against everything papa taught me. In that moment, I knew that, Timothy had picked the wrong rival.
Francisca, that's her name, so beautiful, even in her stupidity. She couldn't even choose one of us, how could she say she loved us both? How could she love two men in the same way, and with the same intensity? It just didn't make any sense. I tried to be civil, one last time, so, I set up a meeting with Timothy, he was like a brother to me, I had to try and talk sense into him, and I did, but he didn't listen. He was just as pigheaded as I was. Too bad. The next day, he was found in his room, very dead.
So, members of the jury, that is my story, the story of how I got here. I fought for what I believed in, and I deserve my freedom back, I didn't make the rules, I just played by them, All is fair in love and war.
