Once In a long while, I go through my phone book, not necessarily in search of any contact, but just to see whose contacts are still there, I did that today. As I scroll through, I come across some contacts that belong to old friends with whom I have lost touch. Now, with the onward movement that life is, that is inevitable, Life always takes people in different directions, and most times, it's hard to keep up with friends from the years before, Our lives change so much that it's ineluctable that our friends will.

When I look back over my life - highschool , University, the places where I used to live,-there are many friends and even relatives, who I was really close to, but now, I have little or no contact with. Believe it or not, it's the same for all of us.

Back when I was in highschool, I'll had friends that I'd thought I couldn't do without, but life disproved that. I now think that there isn't a person in the world that another cannot do without. Everyone is replaceable. I spoke with an old friend from the contact list today, and he was on full-on attack. He complained of how I'd forgotten about him and never bothered to contact him in the last 5 years, and I didn't bother to defend myself, because I'd actually forgotten about him, and I told him that. The truth is bitter, they say, but I'd promised to stop lying to certain people. Hey guys, if someone accuses you of having forgotten them, if you have, say "Yes, I did forget you. " it's not punishable by law.

You know, you can't keep up with everyone you've ever bonded with. You're not supposed to keep seeing someone after you've left the area, or still chat on WhatsApp or Facebook everyday, now that you're working two jobs, there just isn't enough time, it's normal. But some people don't get it, my old friend clearly does not. There really is no reason for people to be resentful towards their friends, when life takes them in different directions, be it temporarily or permanently.

For the case of my friend, I went off to college, and whilst he was still manning his father's house and wooing all the girls in the area, I was worried about maintaining a GPA above 3.0, we just stopped having much in common. Yours could be a different case, you get married and a kid is on the way, whilst your friend has no plans of settling down, trust me, you'll begin to see changes in your friendship. It's no good, feeling guilty over it.

Looking back, I've had friends that I miss, and others whose company I enjoyed at the time, and now I'm happy with just the memories. There are a few friends from the years before, who are worth making the effort to stay in touch with, but even so, things will change between you two.

Over time, I noticed that there are the friends who you do not see, or contact in months, or even years, and when you do, they relate with you like, it was just yesterday..... I think they are the best ones. What do you think?

The photo is one of my favorites from my pinterest collection.
