Do you ever get so late for an appointment, that you just stop hurrying and take your time? It happens to me some of the time. Yeah, I know that lateness is not a good attribute, but Hey, Better late than never, right?
My friend has this life plan, and goals, and in it, he has series of accomplishments slated for various time frames and age ranges of his life. Get a University degree at 23, get married at 26, get a masters degree at 25, and a whole list of that. Now, I know that having life goals, either short term or long term, is very necessary, and almost compulsory, but you gotta be able to bend, when the wind of life blows, or else, it'll break you, and believe me, it will definitely blow, because life has her own agenda, despite yours.
This friend of mine had to learn the hard way, because he didn't learn to bend, when the wind came, and even though experience is the best teacher, smart people do not become students of experience.
People are always in a hurry, trying to get from one point to another in their life, at already specified time frames. Some of them are in a little too much of a hurry, maybe for fear of being late, or for fear of disappointing themselves, either way they go too fast. So, because someone, somewhere, thinks that everyone should buy their own houses and get married before they're 30, and the idea of it, is brilliant, then you fight tooth and nail to make that possible, not noticing when your ambition becomes desperation. The thing about desperation is, it doesn't end well.
Life is not a competition, and everyone is on their own lane. Arthur, might get married at 27, and you had that plan, but life gets in the way, and you're getting married at 40. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. We won't all arrive at our destinations early enough, some of us will get there late, but, what's important is, we will get there. And in my opinion, it's better off to get there late, than to not get there at all, because you ended your race yourself, out of a hurry.
It's better off to be late, then never getting there.
