We suffer from misinformation, as the term AI is nowadays being used inappropriately. There really is no intelligence in current Artificial Intelligence, only very fast algorithms that are being trained to do something "better" (e.g. play games, recognize objects. Think chess, Go, and vision systems to support assisted driving).

AI is very far from being a threat. That said, it is never too early to start considering the potential implications, and be careful about them.
