From the onset of life,we have been taught that life is a race, run fast, compete or be stomped over, even the little long creamy dudes have to compete to fertilize that big bulb egg.But did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe while you were busy racing to be the one to fertilize the egg,one of the other dudes might have helped pushed you into the egg.?

Even as kids we heard it from everyone, especially our parents, they never failed to remind us that we have to be one step ahead of the next person, indirectly putting into our fragile minds that we are in a competition.

I remember one time when I came home with the third position in class, mom's words were

the person who got the first position, how many heads does he/she have?now how many heads do you have?no 1st position no Christmas gift

From that moment I saw the person as an enemy a sworn enemy I had to defeat,i wasnt ready to lose my pretty red shoe.My innocent mind had been messed with, what I failed to understand was that I was in competition with my self and not the next person,i needed to fight to be better than the girl who went to bed the night before, well you can't blame a kid.

Believe it or not, every one out there has at some point seen another as a competition, someone is always trying to be better than the other, wear better cloths, have better shoes, have the latest smartphone, drive the latest car.
So much energy wasted on wrong things that only yield negative results,if we put this energy into helping eachother be the best they can be,we would be helping each other reach our full potentials.

if you have to compete, compete with yourself

The key to harnessing your strength lies in competing only with yourself and not getting affected by others’ performance. High performers focus more intently on bettering their own previous efforts than on beating competitors. In fact, worrying about a competitor’s ability and possible superiority can often be self-defeating. Wondering about how other people are doing might discourage you and distract you from the most important task of all improving your own performance. If you must compete, compete with your own potential.

Picture life like a number line, there is always a number higer than another, and a number lower than the other. So is life, there will always be someone who is better than you are, someone with a better body, nicer hair, a bigger house even a bigger butt.Likewise, there is someone who you are better off than.
while you are struggling to finish college someone is getting their dream job, while your busy chassing your dream job someone is getting married, take life one step at a time what is yours will come at the right time and place, everyone is on a different path of life, with different challanges and obligations, why attempt to compare your journey with that of another.
Comparing ourselves with others will only lead us to judging ourselves based on their own values, making us loose sense of ours, you might win but for only a while, where then is the joy of temporary happiness?Life is a competition, yes it is,but it is not a race against anyone else, instead of wasting time competiting against others, find time to work on yourself instead, look into yourself and find areas which need improvement and work on them.
That way, you get to set your own values and metrics, and you are able to choose goals that best fit you and define your own success. It is ok to be motivated by other people, but once you start deviating from your focus then there is a problem, you may never really open yourself to things that could improve you and find real happiness.
