Gifted Hands: The Autobiography of Ben Carson by Ben Carson. I have always enjoyed stories related to medicine and the great achievements that anyone can accomplish in this field. In fact, there are many films and series that teach us how valuable these individuals can be, and one of those films is about the life of Ben Carson. I enjoyed this film some time ago, but I didn't know there was a book about it, let alone that it had been written by Ben Carson himself. Reading it has truly been a great learning experience, because it tells us that life will never be easy, but that will never be an obstacle to anyone getting ahead. Truly, this doctor and writer's narrative opens the door to a world of incredible possibilities. His philosophy, full of excellence and resilience, will always be a reason for us as readers to delve into the mind of a surgeon who broke all the rules, daring to accept risks and challenges that went down in history. For him, thinking big means overcoming any obstacle, and it is a fact that each book and each piece of writing are engines that drive the personal and professional development of any of us. We can enjoy all of this in his book Manos Prodigiosas (Prodigious Hands), where he himself tells us about his life and how, since childhood, he broke down barriers in a world of neglect and poverty that always told him he could not be someone in life. He did not let himself be defeated, and his mother was the fundamental pillar for this.

For Sonya, there was one unshakeable idea in her mind: her children had to be better than her and excel in their education. For her, mediocrity did not exist. The mission was simple: limit television and anything else that could be a distraction. In exchange, Ben had to read two books a week, which led to impressive intellectual growth. This demonstrated the power of reading to cultivate not only knowledge but also to make us better people and open many doors. Now, you can be very intelligent, but if you have anger issues, all that learning is lost. We see this when Ben is about to stab a classmate; that would have been the biggest mistake of his life, and luckily he understood that he had to control himself; those hands would be used to save lives, not end them. Manos Prodigiosas: La Historia de Ben Carson por Ben Carson. Siempre me han gustado las historias que tengan que ver con medicina y los grandes logros que cualquier persona puede tener en este ámbito laboral. De hecho; existen muchas películas y series, que nos enseñan lo valioso que pueden llegar a ser estos seres humanos y una de esas películas, es la relacionada con la Vida de Ben Carson. Este filme lo disfruté hace algún tiempo, pero no sabía que existía un libro sobre ello y mucho menos que había sido escrito por el mismo Ben Carson. De verdad; que leerlo ha sido una gran enseñanza, porque nos cuenta que la vida nunca será fácil; pero eso jamás será impedimento para que cualquier persona pueda salir adelante. Realmente; la narrativa de este médico y escritor, nos abre las puertas hacia un mundo de posibilidades increíble. Su filosofía llena de excelencia y resiliencia, siempre será motivo para que nosotros como lectores, nos adentremos en la mente de un cirujano que rompió todos los esquemas, atreviéndose a aceptar riesgos y retos que pasaron a la historia. Para él pensar en grande significa superar cualquier obstáculo y es un hecho; que cada libro y cada escrito, son motores que impulsan el desarrollo personal y profesional de cualquiera de nosotros. Todo esto lo podemos disfrutar en su libro Manos Prodigiosas, donde él mismo nos relata su vida y como desde niño rompió las barreras en un mundo de dedesidia y pobreza, que siempre le decía que no podía ser alguien en la vida. No se dejó vencer y su madre fue el pilar fundamental para ello.

En la escuela, Ben es tratado como un niño tonto y es violento porque a veces tiene ataques de ira; todo ello sin saber que debajo de toda esa pobreza, tristeza y malos tratos, estaba escondido todo un prodigio. Una de las cosas que me emocionó de este libro; es que a pesar de su conducta y lo mal que le iba en la calle, en casa siempre contó con el apoyo de su madre; para mí, este es el motivo principal para su avance. Sabemos que su madre no tenía ningún tipo de educación, pero era sumamente inteligente. Para Sonya, había en su mente una idea inquebrantable; era la de que sus hijos debían ser mejores que ella y avanzar en materia educativa, para ella no existía la mediocridad. La misión era sencilla, limitar la televisión y todo lo que podría generar distracción; a cambio de eso, Ben tenía que leer dos libros a la semana, lo que originó un crecimiento intelectual impresionante; demostrando esto el poder que tiene la lectura para cultivar no solo el conocimiento, sino que nos puede hacer mejores personas, además de abrir muchas puertas. Ahora; puedes ser muy inteligente, pero si tienes problemas de ira, todo ese aprendizaje se pierde. Y aunque tuvo muchos éxitos; también se enfrentó a varias pérdidas que le causaron mucho dolor; sin embargo, Ben tenía una capacidad de curarse increíble y no solo eso, sino que todo ese dolor lo canalizaba, para continuar aprendiendo sin rendirse ante cualquier obstáculo. Ben nos hace reflexionar sobre el éxito; porque a partir de ello podemos entender, que para ser exitoso hay que avanzar por caminos llenos de obstáculos. Es un libro que invita a siempre tener esperanzas y que todo en la vida es posible; rendirse jamás será una opción. En términos generales; Ben nos invita a reflexionar sobre el premio que recibes cuando haces cosas buenas. Para él no se trata de riqueza; sino de la emoción que se siente cuando ayudas a los demás y en su caso, al salvar vidas y brindar esperanza a sus familias cuando otros decían no.
