I thought I'd bring everyone up to speed on my current project vehicle. I came across a 1987 Chevrolet K-5 Blazer for 1000 dollars. In my area of the US, these are basically unobtainable as anything but scrap heaps. It seems the vicious winters and salt have destroyed them all over the past 30 years or more. Why am I happy that it is a 1987 you may wonder?
1987 is still a full size "square body" Chevrolet truck, meaning it readily accept many parts from my other vehicles and has parts which can be found cheap. It will accept virtually any small block, big block, or LS swap. It was also a year that was part carbureted while some were throttle-body injection. By the time I am done with it there will be minimal electronics and emissions controls. Luckily, in my state, this will still be road legal and meets all exemptions. The reason I include my automotive projects as part of the 'Lost Generation' message is that it documents my battle against the 'automotive plantation.' I have never had a car payment or had a vehicle that I didn't own outright. Nor do I like to comply with rules inserted in the backdoor to keep people herded into buying new all the time.
Let me get you caught up on what I did this autumn.
I spent the autumn stripping the entire trucks interior, engine bay, and all add-on body panels. The goal was to get the body to the point I could lift it off the frame.
Piece by piece
And it's nearly ready to have the body removed! Stay tuned for further updates, I will try to get pictures of most of the major phases of the task at hand.
