I always find the early gaming industry concern over clones to be pretty weird and surreal.
First, you have to think that they would've known that it was okay to do some of that in the sense that you can't copyright ideas and genres of games are not protected under law.
But more importantly, now everyone's too busy thinking about how they can do the same thing as everyone else to even really make an innovative game (at least in the major studios).
