This is part of a series of posts about things I have made. I include several photos showing the progress throughout the process and give some information about what I am doing, and sometimes why I am doing it.

This one is a simple modification done to a couple of boxes to make litter boxes for my cats.

Our old litter boxes were getting a bit too used so replacements were needed. Regular boxes are too small so we got some large storage boxes.

First I drew a quick picture of what I wanted to cut, where it was to be cut, and the size of the piece to be cut out. This would form the opening the cats would use to get into the boxes.

Then I drew some lines on the boxes showing where I was to make the cuts.

I drilled a couple holes so I could get the jigsaw in for cutting the lines.

I cut the sides.

Then I worked on the bottom cut. The loose flap of plastic moved around enough that I managed to break part of the box I wanted to keep.

I still had the piece, however, so I can use it to fill in at least most of the hole.

I changed the cutting a bit for the second box and didn't break this one.

The edges of the opening were a bit ragged so I grabbed some tape to put over them to protect the cats.

I was also able to use the tape to hold the broken piece in place.

And here are the boxes all done and filled with cat litter.
