On 22 October, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that it had won control of the al-Omar oil field, one of Syria's largest oil fields, on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River. With help from the air force and special forces from the United States-led anti-terrorist coalition, SDF fought with the Islamic State (ISIS) in the al-Omar area, bordering Iraq.
