This bird is a Pitangus sulphuratus, known as Bem-Te-Vi (translates to something like "I've-seen-you" - but in English its Great kiskadee) in Brazil and Benteveo in Argentina. Its name is an onomatopoeia: it is the formation of a word from a sound associated with it - in this case, the bird's singing. Legend goes that when the Bem-Te-Vi sings, rain is coming: "I've-seen-the-rain". On a sunny summer day in Rio, you can bet that if she sings, it will rain. This photo was taken in the Botanical Gardens of Rio de Janeiro, about which my friend mengao@mengao recently wrote - check it out!
