River Nymphs inhabit the rivers of the Splinterlands. Shy and reclusive, they usually remain hidden beneath the water's surface. However, they have a strong respect for life, and they have been known to aid those in need. They are also fiercely protective of their homes and will defend it if it is threatened.
The young mage slung spell after spell at the five eldritch creatures advancing toward him out of the forest. However, his magics had no effect. The beasts stalked toward him. He staggered backward until his sandals splashed into the shallows of the river flowing behind him. They had him surrounded. The things crouched, ready to leap and tear him to pieces.
Energy surged through the young mage. His fatigue vanished, and his eyes widened in surprise. He moved with an unnatural swiftness as he whirled his arms and cast his spells, and this time, they tore into the eldritch creatures, leaving bloody gashes.
Two of the creatures fell dead. A third charged him, and he blasted it full in the face. It collapsed. But the young mage was unbalanced, and the last two leaped at him. No time to react.
A burst of water magic exploded from somewhere behind him and slammed into the two creatures in succession. They let out a shriek, nightmarish skin smoking. Then they, too, fell and died.
The young mage whirled. Behind him, a slender woman with flawless blue-green skin, pointed ears, and luxurious dark-blue hair stood in the river. The water flowed around her slim waist, and her fingertips traced circles in the current. Her features were elegant and graceful. A magical fae, born of the river, he though in awe. She was the most beautiful creature he'd ever seen.
She shot him a crooked grin, winked, and vanished beneath the water's surface.
The Water Splinter is one of my favorite amongst all the other Splinters, because they are versatile and includes a lot of pretty strong monsters. I am playing in modern format, so the best days with Alric is gone, but the new Chaos Summoner of Kelya is almost on the same level like him, but I need to use different strategies with it.
Currently the meta uses a lot of Poison monster such as the Ureaus and Deeplurker, but with the Briar Patch ruleset in my battle I was pretty safe against them. ๐
This week's battle challenge features the River Nymph, so let's see her stats and abilities on all levels. ๐
The River Nymph is very situational monster, because her most important ability is the Cleans, which removes all negative effects on the Monster in the first position on the friendly team. She receives this ability from Level one onwards and it is pretty good in a Noxious Fumes ruleset, where every monster has Poison. ๐
On Level 5 she will get the Amplify ability, which will increases the Magic Reflect, Return Fire, and Thorns damage to all enemy monsters by one. This ability is quite strong especially with the three new ruleset where all the monsters receive the Thorn, Return Fire or Magic Reflect abilities.
On her last Level, which is eight she will get the Swiftness ability to increase the speed of her friendly monsters by one.
There are many better cards than the River Nymph for the same amount of mana, but her Cleanse ability could mean a huge difference in a "special" battle. ๐
| Ruleset | Description |
|---|---|
| Earthquake | Non-flying Monsters take 2 Melee damage at the end of each round. |
| Briar Patch | All monsters have the Thorns ability. |
My lineup and the decision behind it!
Summoner
Quix The Devious
Main Tank
Chain Golem
Usually I rent him on Level 3 to give him the Piercing ability, but this time it was 4 times more expensive to rent that than the Level 2 version. ๐
Speedy Off-Tank
Djinn Oshannus
Speedy Dodger
Void Dragon
"Multi" Damage Dealer
Chaos Dragon
The Blast paires perfectly with the Scattershot ability to damage two other monsters next to his target. The Blind makes all enemy Melee and Ranged attacks to have an increased chance of missing their target. (+15% trigger chance) ๐
Cleaning Manager
River Nymph
Life Leecher Damage Dealer
Runemancer Kye
She is very good in the Earthquake ruleset, because she is a flyer as well. ๐
As soon as I saw the ruleset of the Briar Patch, where every monster has the Thorn ability I knew this battle is meant for the River Nymph. ๐ My opponent brought three Melee attack creature, which will determine the outcome of this battle pretty quickly. The River Nymph and her Amplify ability will deal three damage back instead of the two against all the Melee attack creatures, which is amazing.
The only problem I had with the River Nymph is the fact that she can't fly, so she will die within two round, still she might deal a lot of damage.
My opponent picked the same summoner as me, but luckily he had only a Level 1 version of him and his monsters were lower Leveled than mine. Even if he would have the same Level of monsters such as mines I do not think that he would win this battle thanks to my River Nymph. ๐
