Battle Mage Secrets Weekly Battle Challenge! (Lost Magic)
I love the idea that the Weekly Battle Challenge changed instead of featuring a monster to represent a ruleset. It is so good to do something different than usual and I hope they will continually do this in the future. The best way would be to mix these challenges, so every week would be more interesting.
This week we need to show a ruleset, which is the Lost Magic and the way I used it to my (dis)advantage in the Battle I played. ๐
My only problem with this new system is that it is very difficult to do battles with the specific ruleset featured for the week challenge, because it is random what you are going to get and even if you have that ruleset you need to win it somehow, which is not always easy. ๐
| Magic units may not be used in battle. | ||
| Try to use Thorns and Demoralize to counter melee attacks and use Headwinds and Return Fire to counter ranged attacks. Important to remember that the units with 2 types of attack (which include magic) cannot be used as well. |
This ruleset eliminates one third of the monsters from the game, because there are three attack type in the game, which is the Melee, Ranged and Magic. The Magic attack is the strongest out of the three, because it never miss and ignores the enemy armors as long as they do not have the Void Armor ability, but that is pretty rare.
Without this form of attack type all the players has to rely on the Melee and Ranged attacks, so it is very important to bring a lot of Armor or Shatter into the baattle to get protection from attacks or destroy them. ๐
| Ruleset | Description | |
|---|---|---|
| Super Sneak | All Melee attack Monsters have the Sneak ability. | |
| Lost Magic | Monsters with Magic attack may not be used in battles. | |
| Armored Up | All Monsters have 2 Armor in addition to their normal Armor stat. |
The mana cap was 35, which is more than enough to assemble a nice team according to the rulesets. It is possible to use one or two "big guns" as well and try to take advantage of the missing Magic monsters.
Only the Water and the Earth Splinter were available to choose from, which was an easy decision for me, because Kelya in the Water deck are well suited for the Lost Magic and the Obsidian from the Earth Splinter will be completely useless here. ๐
My lineup and the decision behind it!
Summoner
Kelya Frendul
Kelya Frendul is an excellent summoner and I believe is one of the best in the game next to Lux Vega, but she cost a fortune. Kelya cost only four mana and he provides two ability to all of his monsters, which means that he will increase their Speed and Health by one. ๐
Main Tank
Diemonshark
The Diemonshark is one of my favorite tank within the Water deck, because he is very fast, got a lot of Armor and Health as well and he cost only 8 mana. He has the Trample ability from Level 1, which means that when this Monster hits and kills its target, it will perform another attack on the next monster in the enemy Team. ๐
This ability combined with the Level 4 ability of Enrage makes this monster a real "serial" killer. The Enrage makes this monster to increase its Melee attack and Speed when damaged.
On Level 4 he receives an extra Melee attack damage as well, so the total number of attack damage will be 3 and even more when he is damaged. ๐
The Reacher
Relenor Cleaver
Relenor Cleaver is a Gladiator card, which means he is only available in Brawl or when a ruleset allows us to use one of them. He is a replacement of my usual Flying Squid, because he also has the Reach ability allowing him to attack from the second position, but he is much stronger than the Flying Squid.
First of all he is better damage and armor than him, because he sacrificed some of his speed to achieve that. Secondly he possess the Bloodlust ability, which means when he kills a monster all of his stats will be increased by one! ๐ค
Mass Slower Gooo
Creeping Ooze
The Creeping Ooze was part of my special strategy for this game, because I have tried to take advantage of the Super Sneak ruleset and in order to do that I had to decrease the Speed of my opponent monsters by any way I can.
This monster cost only one mana, so he is an easy fit into any team and he has the Slow ability to decrease the Speed of the enemy monsters by one. ๐
Main Damage Dealer
Axemaster
The Axemaster is one of the best damage dealer in the game, because he has a whooping +3 Ranged damage boosted with his only one ability, which is the Double Strike. As the name implies this ability allows this monster to attack twice in every round making him to deal 6 damage per round as long as he can hit his target.
He cost 7 mana, which is a bit pricey for 6 Health, but if he can survive few rounds he might prove his worth by killing the enemy tank easily. ๐
Backline Protector and Mini Damage Dealer
Hardy Stonefish
Primarily I used the Hardy Stonefish to protect my backline in case my strategy fails, but being as a Melee attack monster he was able to attack from my backline thanks to the Super Sneak ruleset. His Armor is quite good to block one or to attack before the enemy monsters would open his shell and he cost only one mana.
The Gold Version of him would allow my me to get a flat +10% yield from the battle rewards. ๐
Main Attack Dodger
Noa the Just
Noa the Just is one of the new Epic reward monster, who doesn't have any attack on its own, but his advantage is the fact that he has a huge amount of Speed and very good abilities.
He was like meant to be played within these rulesets, because one of his ability is the Rust, which will reduces the Armor of all the enemy Monsters by 2 and his second ability is the Dodge, which will provide him an increased +25% chance of evading any incoming Melee or Ranged attacks.
Using him as the last monster in my team I made sure that the enemy Sneaker monsters would have a hard time killing him. ๐
This battle was part of the Brawl that my Guild is waging against another rival Guild, so it was very important to win this battle and collect a lot of points for my Guild.
Me and my opponent would allowed to use one Gladiator card in their team, but my opponent picked the Lobb Lowland who is also a new reward Summoner who gives -1 Speed to all of his enemy monsters, but more importantly he was allowed to use an extra Gladiator card for this battle making the total number to two for him. ๐ต
In the first round of the battle not much happened, because my opponent brought two solid tank to his front and the back to his team. Unfortunately his low Speed Halving Alchemist hit my Diemonshark right in is b*tt, which rendered his damage to one. ๐
His Mycelic Infantry was quite sturdy thanks to his Shield ability and he easily survived the second round as well, while my Noa was dodging the incoming attacks as it should be.
Finally in the third round my opponent lost his front and back tank and their squishy monsters became in my range and we started to destroy them. ๐
This made the whole battle to finish in the fourth round, because they couldn't survive any more on their own. ๐
