Just recently, I rediscovered myself.

Growing up, my parents and I used to live at Meerzorg, Commewijne. The plot was big enough for a garden.They taught me basically everything I know about gardening and specific plants. We had so many different plants such as orchids, anthuriums, fens etc. I remember that I used to sing the Dora and Diego theme songs for my plants, with the idea that it could grow faster.😅 Gardening used to be a fun bonding experience with my parents.
Unfortunately we had to move to Paramaribo, so my parents gave away almost all the plants we had in the garden and brought a few along with us. For some reason the plants were having trouble adapting to the new environment. If that wasn’t trouble enough, some of my plants got stolen by sneak thieves. So we were left with almost nothing.
In the beginning of summer 2011, my late-mother got really sick and I had to take care of her, so I kind of neglected the plants we had left. She sadly died in September of that year. Life went downhill for me after that. I became super depressed and tried to avoid a lot of things that reminded me of my late-mother.
I did want to pick up on my gardening skills before this year but I never really felt that I had the freedom to, since I moved to different apartments a lot. But this year Brendan and I had a conversation where he was interested in planting our own greens. Of course I agreed, I was super excited to see if I still had my little green thumbs.
Gardening is also a very healthy outlet for me in times when I feel a little down, depressed or have a mental breakdown. My plant collection isn't super big yet, but what's important is, that they are growing really quick and healthy.
❤️Therefore I'm blessed to say that I had great gardening teachers growing up!
