I once read a very lengthy and boring book from Nassim Nicholas Taleb. I don't remember much of what he said, but one of his concept is stuck with me for years.
Make a small bet in whatever you want to do, see how it feels. And then get out or get heavy.
Not his exact words, but that's what he meant.
I invested a couple of hundred dollars in dcity last year, and observed the creator behavior. I love the game, and gerber invests a lot of his money + time in the project.
So, I kept reinvesting intead of taking out. And now, I have a couple thousand worth of assets in that game. Not much, but good returns.
Similarly, instead of getting into the fomo of splinterlands, I played it for a couple of weeks using rented cards. I figured that if crypto gaming will work in the future, this game already has a big community, so better chances of succeeding, so I invested a few hundred dollars into it.
I have worked on a bunch of local businesses. Usually, the energies are high in the beginning. But after investing your money, it's hard to keep going months after months.
I am better with my money habits now(not fomoing in with thousands of dollars in altcoins like I did in 2017/2018 and losing all). Just have to work on other things(like being consistent on hive, writing😅)
