A few weeks ago, I was reading a book called happiness hypothesis.
There are a couple of lessons that I would like to share with you from that book:
- People usually get back to their normal levels of happiness or sadness after a while
For example, if someone wins million dollars lottery, they would be back to their normal level of happiness(and lose that money after a while as statistics say, as they don't have financial knowledge).
If someone gets a terminal illness, or gets handicapped, that person will get back to his normal levels of happiness after the initial shock wanes off.
That person may set moderate goals, but will get back to his normal happiness even after severe health isssues.
I have made life changing money, several times, and lost it. Both in crypto and outside it.
I have fallen into depression once without any reason.
And in both circumstances, I got back to my normal levels of happiness after a while.
Another thing that I really found helpful was observe yourself as a third person.
That's what everyone tells you in meditation -observe your thoughts.
And you can see it in the real world, everyone has advise for others problems. You can easily advise someone on how they can improve their life.
Other people always gives you advise for your problems, or how to build your life better.
But no one has all the solutions for their own life's problems.
People feel like their life's problem is unique, but it's not that unique.
Everyone struggle with a set of 6-7 basic problems - money, social connections, fulfilment from your work.....
Whenever I fell into negative feedback loop, I try to observe myself as a third person- If I were someone else, what would I advise this person? Or is this person thnking rationally?
It helps me. However, like I said, everyone has advise for others problems, people feel that their own problems are difficult to solve.
I was randomly scrolling hive after a while, and saw your post, so wanted to share some insights. Hope you are doing good in your life🙂
