As I wandered along the riverbank, I was met with a series of quaint stone bridges, each offering a new perspective of the water and the lush greenery surrounding it. The sound of the water flowing and the laughter of families picnicking by the river created a wonderfully serene atmosphere. One of the highlights was visiting the Model Village, a miniature replica of Bourton-on-the-Water, which really gave me a sense of the town's layout in a unique way.
Continuing my journey, I strolled through the village, admiring the iconic honey-coloured stone buildings, many of which date back to the 17th century. I popped into a local tearoom where I met an elderly couple who were regulars. They shared fascinating stories about their lives in the Cotswolds and how the village had changed over the years. It was a lovely reminder of the deep-rooted history found in small communities.
I then hiked up to the nearby rolling hills, where I was treated to breathtaking views of the countryside – patchwork fields dotted with sheep and the occasional historic stone wall. I could see the spires of St. Lawrence's Church in the distance, which dates back to the 13th century, a perfect example of the region’s medieval architecture.
As I made my way back, I noticed the changing light as the sun began to set, casting a warm glow over the landscape. It was one of those days that reminded me why I love walking and exploring the historical towns of England; every step is a chance to uncover a story, meet new people, and connect with the past.
