I agree. It is beautiful. And you can wild camp anywhere in the countryside which is opposite to England where it is prohibited, except few areas in some National parks.
Also there are no annoying hedgerows and fences blocking view and access like it is everywhere in England.
It's quite cold and rainy though. Even it is rainy in July/August but it is gettin less rainy now and warmer in summer due to global climate changing.
It's perfect for trail running too. There are one of the best trail runners like in Catalunya.
Even if you live in Edinburgh, you can just do quick, intense vertical run from Palace of Holyroodhouse to Arthur's Seat (like the one from the legend about King Arthur), on top of the volcanic mountain.
