Many cons work in that way.

Many cons work in what way exactly?

"It does not make me believe you aren't by not knowing that. I've had a link to Steemit on my website for a long time."

I repeat what I already said. You have never verified the authorship with us.
We had searched the general layout of the page with some section looking for any links or mention of Steemit and have found none.
You and your website are not special so no one will spend burdensome task of trying to dig through loads of content on your website trying to find if there is anything that could verify the authorship for Steemit.

As long as you refuse to provide link to that section of the website, it will be considered as refusal to verify/failed verification.
