One day before season ends, I just unlocked Diamond III League in Modern. Going to a higher league, I expect my SPS rewards earned per win to increase. I was also rewarded with advancement chests that contained cards, among others. Advancing in leagues as you win more battles is part of the fun I find in playing Splinterlands.
The draw was somewhat lucky. I got an epic neutral card Saltwraith Pirate that I wanted to upgrade. There were also rare and common cards in the rewards as well as potions.
As a result, I upgraded my Saltwraith Pirate to level two. He increased his attack to two. I aim to level him up to three to gain the True Strike ability. I'm using the Saltwraith Pirate as my primary tank in low mana battles together with other Rodentians. I'm taking advantage of his Bloodline Tribute ability to power up fellow Rodentians when he gets defeated.
The battle had the Explosive Weaponry ruleset and I also saw that the enemy used a magic team in his latest battles. So I used the Earth team with the intention of countering my enemy's plans. The Earth archon debuffs magic attacks which immediately counters the Water archon's buffs. Then I had Quilliun Legionary at tank. He has Void ability that decrease magic attacks. To counter the Blast from the ruleset, I had Thunderhoof Nomad in second position who has a Deflect ability. Then, to maximize the effect of Blast, I used units with Opportunity and Sneak abilities. This helped spread Blast damage to the adjacent enemy units.
The strategy I employed worked. The enemy magic attacks were countered and he wasn't able to take advantage of the ruleset. Further, my own attacks were destructive as my units also took advantage of the Execute ability from the archon.
