Jolius and Buns Meet Ratbound Corsair
"Bah! My trident is sharper than your spear and my hair looks far better!" the stranger shouted while rubbing the shaft of his trident and finger combing his hair.
Jolius and Buns exchanged offended looks.
"Take that back!" Jolius growled, adjusting his hair.
"And my spear is perfectly fine." Buns added, gripping his weapon tightly.
Buns took a step forward. Jolius followed, apparently more concerned about the insult to his hair than the threat of an impending fight.
"What's this? I leave you two alone for five minutes, and you're already starting trouble?"
A familiar voice interrupted them.
Jolius and Buns turned around.
"Ember! You're still alive!" they shouted.
"Unfortunately, yes," Ember Roast Sow replied, rolling her eyes. "And no thanks to you two. I had to find my own way here while you were busy doing whatever this is."
She glanced at the stranger, who was now admiring his reflection in the surface of his trident.
"Who's the mermaid?"
"MERMAN!" the stranger barked. "I'm a dude, you know!"
"Right. Sorry. Who's the merman?"
"My name is Ratbound Corsair, and I am a pirate of the seas!" he announced proudly.
"He's a key to our quest," Buns explained.
Jolius scratched his head. "What quest?"
"Finding Nemo," Buns answered confidently.
"Who?"
"I mean finding Culebro!"
"You have the brain of a fish." Jolius said.
"I heard your conversation earlier," Ember said. "This guy is twice as bad as you two combined."
"How so?" Buns asked.
"You're obsessed with your spear. Jolius is obsessed with his hair. And this fellow is obsessed with both his trident and his hair."
Ratbound immediately straightened his hair. "A proper warrior must maintain his appearance!"
"Says the one who's obsessed with her tusks," Buns shot back.
Ember bared her tusks and grinned. "At least mine are natural!"
Before Buns could think of a reply, a booming voice shook the ground.
"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?"
A tall orc stood before them, he has green skin covered with tattoos. A big sword was held on one hand, while an axe in the other.
Jolius, was the first to speak.
"Who are you, and why are you shouting? It's none of your business!"
The orc's eyes narrowed.
"I am King Erminaz Twincleaver, ruler of this kingdom!" he declared. "And everything that happens within my domain is very much my business!"
"A king?" Buns whispered.
"A king of what?" Ratbound Corsair scoffed. "The sea needs no king! The ocean belongs to all!"
King Erminaz turned his gaze toward the merman.
Meanwhile, Ember Roast Sow had not taken her eyes off the enormous orc.
"Those tusks..." she murmured, stepping closer.
King Erminaz looked down at her.
"What about them?"
"They're big!"
Ember circled him slowly, inspecting his tusks.
"Perfect length. Impressive curve. Excellent size. And that natural shine!" She nodded approvingly. "Tell me, Your Majesty, what's your secret? Special diet? A particular mineral supplement? Do you polish them?"
The king stared at her puzzled.
"I brush... after every meal?"
Ember gasped. "I knew it!"
King Erminaz's serious expression changed.
"Alright, alright" the king said. "You have entertained me, whether intentionally or not. Now explain why you have gathered on my shore and disturbed the peace of my kingdom."
Buns stepped forward and bowed awkwardly.
"We are searching for someone named Culebro. Ratbound Corsair says he knows him."
The king's smile vanished.
"Culebro?"
The adventurers exchanged glances.
"You know him?" Jolius asked.
King Erminaz planted the tip of his sword into the ground.
"I know of him. His name has been mentioned in my castle recently, and not in pleasant circumstances."
Ratbound Corsair's expression suddenly grew serious.
"What do you mean?"
The king looked at the merman carefully.
"That depends. Are you truly searching for Culebro, or are you hoping to find the treasure he carries?"
"Treasure?" the adventurers shouted together.
