The Steem blockchain and its associated applications (Steemit, dTube, dSound etc) are shaking up both the social media and the cryptocurrency worlds.
For most of its users it's a blogger's paradise - a magic internet money machine that rewards you handsomely for making new media and for curating the best material.
SteemCampUK will be the first, participant-driven, unconference about the Steem Blockchain looking at the most important issues for existing users of the system and people interested in finding out more.
An unconference is a decentralized version of a conference. The agenda for SteemCampUK will be decided by the people who turn up on the day, led through a well-tested process by Lloyd Davis (@lloyddavis).
We expect there to be a mix of people who've been around for a year or more as well as newer users and people who haven't signed up yet at all. Everyone is welcome. The only qualification is an interest in using and improving some part of the Steem ecosystem.
We'll meet together at the beginning of the day to decide what subjects we're going to work on and talk about. You might have a project that you'd like to share with others and have a fancy presentation to show it off, or you might just have a question that you want people's input on. There will be plenty of space to get to know each other and work on what's important to you, whether that's a highly technical discussion of incentivization in a decentralized economy or just an opportunity to get to meet face to face people that you've got to know online.
SteemCampUK will be as self-supporting as possible, that means we'll pay our way, but we won't take big sponsorship from anyone that might compromise our independence and ability to speak freely. That means that there will be a ticket price, but it will be payable in STEEM or SBD as well as £ Sterling. The main costs will be the hire of the venue and the provision of refreshments. All the costs will be shared transparently and if there is any surplus we will have a democratic process for spending it.
Venue is still To Be Confirmed but it will be somewhere in Birmingham.
