The climate in the previously cold area where we now live has changed so much that for the second season we are able to grow watermelons. The summer has become very hot and we are trying to use these not very favorable changes to our advantage.
Last year, all the watermelons had time to ripen, but they were quite small. The largest had the size of a child's ball and a perfect round shape. The smallest was the size of an apple, but had the flesh of a full-fledged watermelon with a very thin crust. We even liked to deal with small watermelons. There were a lot of them, but they were well stored and were convenient to transport and use. I choose a watermelon, cut it in half and eat it like a kiwi or avocado with a dessert spoon. It is much more beautiful and convenient than dealing with large and not always ripe ones.
They do not require special care, but on our black earth, which dries quickly in the heat, they require watering in the absence of rain. It is difficult, but this year we have installed a water supply system closer to the plantation and it has become easier to carry water.
Watermelons are already much larger than last year's ones and can reach the usual sizes for their varieties by mid-September. But the little ones that I like will also be there, because I do not specifically limit the growth of some shoots.
Thank you very much for visiting and reading!
