Slowly but inevitably I continue my acquaintance with the Canary Islands. After four visits to Lanzarote, three to Tenerife and two to Gran Canaria, I finally made it to La Palma. Thanks to our favorite airline for adding a direct flight from Santiago this year.
La Palma is the coolest, greenest (and generally Madeira-like) of the Canary Islands. Lots of hiking trails in national parks. There are almost no tourists in the cities, everything is on the trail. Black beaches with volcanic sand. The water in the ocean is from 19 to 24 degrees at different times of the year. The 2021 eruption gave rise to new routes and stories from taxi drivers: "My daughter's house is now buried under 60 meters of lava."
Not hot, not crowded and cozy. Will keep La Palma in mind for short weekend trips.
