Can you imagine literally waking up on the wrong side of the bed bedroom?

Well, the story was told many times by my Dad's brother, one of eleven siblings by the way!
Remember there was no television back then!

He had a wicked sense of humour, and knew how to tell a good story, often with a tail added to the tale, so often had us laughing till our tummies hurt.

He was married to a big strong lady with an equally strong will and determination, quite the character!

She loved rearranging the furniture in their home, so he'd often come home from work finding a whole new look! She did not need any man to help her move heavy furniture, oh no, and I'm sure uncle had to tread carefully and not say too much about the frequent changes, or else...

Well, he swore that she used to move the bedroom around while he was asleep, and being a strong hefty woman, that did not stop her from turning the bed around while he was in dreamland.

He said he often did not know on which side of the room he would wake up :)

This story reminded me of our last trip down the coast with artywink@artywink and her hubs, as well as my brother and his family.

Our bedroom for the week coincidentally had a similar configuration to our bedroom at home in that our built-in wardrobe is along the wall at the foot of our bed; and it is the same colour and a very similar design.

The only difference is that our bedroom is much bigger, so the wardrobe naturally is quite a distance from the bed.

As we chose one of the smaller bedrooms, the cupboard was almost on top of the bed, and that's where all the trouble started!

I'm sure many of you have had the startling experience of waking up, not knowing where you are on your first night on holiday. This happens if you're either over-exhausted from RL, a long drive to your destination or if you've had one toddy too many.

Well, I won't give the game away as to what happened that night, but the hubs woke up with a fright, in the middle of the night, sat up in bed, holding his hands in front of his body, as if to veer off an intruder!

I got such a fright, until he shouted that the wardrobe had moved towards the bed!
He of course was totally confused until I put the light on and reminded him we were not at home!

I do think the storms and mudslides we had in our city last year were still fresh in his mind.
He may also have been a tad hypoglycemic at the time, which combined with other substances, is a recipe for disaster :)

Well, did we all have a good laugh about that the next morning, while he just sheepishly smiled.

So, next time you go on holiday, make sure you familiarize yourself with your new surroundings, especially if your hair has a tinge of silver, or you may just wake up with a fright, in the middle of the night!

Never mind the poor wife who gets more of a fright thinking her man has gone totally bonkers :)
