I was never the broody type. Yes, babies were cute, but I never oohed and aahed as most girls in my school did! I often wondered if there was something wrong with me; why did I not want to pick up, kiss, and cuddle, like everyone else did? Not all of these babies looked as cute and gorgeous as they said. Does that make me a cold-hearted person, I wondered?

I married when I was only twenty-one, and that was the best day of my life. Just the two of us in a brand-new home that stood on a sandy hill. Little did I know that the best was yet to come!
We lived, loved, celebrated, and mourned in that house for over fifty years.

Three years after our wedding, we decided that we needed mini-me's. I'll be frank and tell you that I hoped it would be a girl, as I grew up as the eldest with four brothers. Mom and Dad could not make a second baby girl ๐Ÿ˜‰

I fell pregnant, and life was good. I had no health issues like some pregnant women have.

Labour came two weeks early and was very laboured indeed - is that where the word comes from, I now wonder? I was told that my baby was in a posterior breech, or 'sunny-side' up position, and the doctor may have to use instruments to turn him or her. We did not know the sex of the baby back then, as ultrasound scans were not done routinely.

How can one go from the most agonizing, drawn-out experience to instantaneous bliss?

Baby birth.jpg

Only a miracle can do this, the beginning of a new life, the birth of my precious son.
This baby was the most beautiful and special treasure I had ever held in my hand.

Three years later, a second miracle took place, the birth of another beautiful son!
Everyone said we should try again as the third one may be a girl, but my two boys are very special!

I got the baby blues one night, looking at these two precious boys, and thinking this is absolute bliss, but it would one day come to an end when they go out into the big world.

The years passed by very quickly, and they both fled the nest, but the memories of those two special days never fade, and my sons are the ones who still make life so very special!
