The birth of Hive happened just six days before our country went into a stringent hard lockdown in 2020!

During the first 21 days, everyone except those working in essential services was not allowed to leave their homes.

Our world stood still!

However, this new blockchain babe called Hive that turned 2 years old yesterday, kept me sane and not so cut-off from the world that seemed to have gone totally crazy!

I could continue blogging with no restrictions, in fact, I had more time to blog and interact online while learning how the pandemic was affecting my Hive friends from around the globe.
Hive became a refuge and something to hold onto, while my immediate family watched constant and repetitive news media reports!

There was no chance of seeing the extended family, let alone friends; little did we realize then that our lives would stay like that for a long while!

Now that things are normalizing and we're getting together with friends and family, we realize just how precious that personal contact is, and how the connection cannot be broken easily!

My niece and her family visited from another province for the long weekend, and this phrase rang so true, as we're all a little bit, or a whole lot, of all these things!

Special times were shared with this awesome couple and their two very special children; little Mia Lily who is just as mischievous as her great-gran Lily. Her brother Aden amazed us with his knowledge and insight into so much of life, as he is a highly functional young man with Asperger's Syndrome.

I'm so proud of my niece and her husband for their perseverance in helping him develop and adapt,to the extent that he's able to attend a mainstream high school, although he has to attend some classes in the higher grade, as he gets frustrated when he is forced to 'learn' stuff he already knows!

The Glue

I've realized following the loss of Mom Lily, that I will have to be the glue that binds the family; just like my Gran, and then Mom Lily who took over that role and arranged get-togethers with favourite precious family members.

My sister-in-law's two fur babies are very much part of the family get-togethers at their home which we love visiting.

They live in the countryside and we enjoy taking the route through the Krantzkloof Gorge, which I'd like to hike one of these days before my old bones seize up :)

The moon saying goodnight at the end of the day, always reminding me it's time to get to bed!
