How life has changed ever since you-know-what entered our world and tore it apart!
If someone just mentions that they're not feeling well, those who've had the vax look suspiciously at the person and wonders if they're anti-vaxers as they may have you-know-what; those on the other side of the fence blames every illness on the very vax that is saving millions of lives!
We are a strange lot, aren't we, but our differences are what make the world go round so it's a personal choice and I'll leave it there!
I however would like to focus on the good things in life by sharing our second exciting trip...to the big shopping mall...now that we feel a little safer as we've had both our vax doses; kind of like having a suit of armour on!
I'm currently having health issues, nothing to do with you-know-what, so was referred to a specialist who put me on conventional meds and we had a cappucinno afterwards, which got me googling this new problem I'm facing.
I do believe in taking natural supplements, and granny Google gave me some advice, so as we were right next door to the Pavilion Shopping Mall, hubby and I decided to be adventurous and go shopping at the BIG MALL!
Would we have seen this as anything to get excited about just two years ago?
Of course not, but how much water has gone under the bridge ever since Covid reared its ugly head and forced most of the world population into becoming hermits, especially the elderly with co-morbidities; hubby being a type 1 diabetic is was especially at risk!
When traveling along the N3 highway west of Durban, one cannot miss this shopping mall that has been modelled on European Architecture with its iconic domes; especially impressive when lit up at night.
On our visit, we immediately could see many are still avoiding shopping trips, as there were a number of empty parking bays, most unlike the time before!
We even found parking in the limited Pensioners Parking area!
My cellphone died as we walked into the Mall as this was an impromptu stopover and I had not charged it therefore some of my images are from previous trips and some sourced online. Hubby dropped his phone just the other day and his camera screen was smashed as it hit a stone on the ground!
I do like telling my stories with the help of images so you, the reader, gets the feel of the place!
Hubby always says that when I relay any event, my story starts in Cairo and ends on the southern-most tip of Africa; no cure for verbal diarrhea not so!
One can find anything from the very best cosmetics, aides for disabled, prescription meds and an abundance of natural supplements.
I found the recommended supplement, those creams that are supposed to keep the mature pleated porridge (60 plus) skin youthful...humph...some healthy and tasty treats and other odds and ends which cost a whole lot less at this large store.
Our tummies started telling us that lunchtime was looming so we headed for Centre Court.
There were many empty tables at this popular restaurant that usually has patrons willing to queue up for an empty table!
What impressed me were the extra precautions they are taking with regards to Covid sanitation.
The masked waiter sprayed our hands with sanitizer before handing us the menus!
The food was good as always but I could not take any pics! Of course the portions were way too large so we took a doggy bag home for Ron later-on.
Altogether a very pleasant morning that pre-Covid used to be just another shopping expedition, but this time felt like an outing!
Ending off on a sad note - when we were traveling to the hospital which is right next door to the Pavilion, we took the back route to save time.
A mere 5 minutes before the Pavilion, one finds squalor in a large squatter camp where refuse is being thrown down hills as all hope has been lost by these people!
There are many squatter camps like this all over our country; just another sign of Government's failure in addressing housing needs due to many factors such as urbanisation and gross mishandling of finance, with tenders being awarded to incompetent companies and in the process enriching government officials who still fail to provide proper housing. The ugly 'Apartheid' system which ended in the early 90s is still being blamed.
Formal housing in our neighbourhood, a far cry from this squatter camp!
Sorry to end off on that note guys, but it just makes me so angry and sad every time I see areas like this, with no hope in sight!
