I rarely post about pets, because frankly speaking, I don't like pets, and don't go near them if I can help it. Today is one of those days - meet Chip the dachshund.

Chip belongs to my niece. She's currently on holiday and my brother is dog sitting him whilst she's away. I went over to my brother's for dinner today, and Chip was pitter patting all over the house. I always think dachshund are odd looking creatures, especially the fat ones when their tummy gets so big that they practically have to drag it across the floor when they walk. Luckily, Chip isn't like that. Apparently he's on a controlled diet to keep him healthy and slim.

Not being a pet lover, I have no idea about all their gadgets. If my brother didn't tell me, I wouldn't have guessed in a million years what this green thing is. I probably would have thought it's just a toy. Turns out this is a feeding bowl, and the spikes is to slow down the doggy gobbling up the food too quick.

When you throw the dog food in the bowl, it falls around the spikes and the doggy has to go around the spikes looking for it. The grooves makes it more difficult for doggy to pickup the food, prolonging the eating time. I thought this is quite clever. Maybe us human should have something similar if we want to go on a diet and eat slower 🙂

Chip is quite hyper and as we were cooking, he kept on pit patting in and out of the kitchen, often standing next to us in the hope of some nibbles. In the end my brother gave him one of these swirly thing. He said they're made of beef tendon and is really tough.

Chip took Swirly back to his den at the bottom of the stairs and started attacking it. Swirly may be small, but it was a tough cookie. It certainly put up a good fight even though Chip was gnawing it with all his strength.

After a little while, Swirly became Swirly 0.75 + 0.25.

With his initial victory round in hand, Chip paraded Swirly proudly around the house and settled on his other den in front of the TV for round two. I bet you he choose this spot, knowing it would be in full view of us to watch the final showdown. And sure enough, Swirly didn't stand a chance in round two. Within a matter of minutes, Swirly 0.75 + 0.25 became Swirly 0.5 + 0.5. Just see how smug Chip is.

To round of his victory for the night, Smug Chip took Swirly 0.5 onto the sofa, landing himself on the comfy cushion and budging me off my seat.

See!!! I told you I don't like dogs!!!!
