Recently I've started playing a mobile game called Wordle https://www.powerlanguage.co.uk/wordle/

It's a very simple game, you have six chances to guess a five letter word, but every guess must be a valid word so you can't guess A E I O U to get a head start. If you guess the correct letter at the correct position, the letter will turn green. If you guess the correct letter at the wrong position it will turn yellow. And if the letter isn't in the word, it will turn grey. Here's the instructions from the website. Easy peasy.

The great thing about Wordle is that you can only play once a day. So it won't suck up too much of your time and become addicted to it. Here's my game today, game #226 and it took me 6 attempts out of 6.

When you share your results with friends like I have above, it won't reveal the word in case they haven't played yet. It will only show how you did in each step. For example, in my first guess I guessed one correct letter but at the wrong position. That's denoted by the yellow block. In my second guess I chose another word that had the same letter but in a different position, and some other letters that I hadn't used in my first guess. Too bad, no improvement on my first guess.

Things improved on my third guess. I guessed the correct position of the letter I knew already. That's the green block, it means the correct letter at the correct place. However you (or anyone I share this with) won't know that it took me three attempts to guess the correct position of this letter. I also guessed two more correct letters, but both were at the wrong position.

A very handy function is that the letters are highlighted in the keyboard, marking it easier for you to visualise what word to guess next. This is the screen cap from my husband's game. He's already guessed T in the correct position and I at the wrong position. The dark grey letters are wrong, so when you make your next guess you should focus on the light grey ones.

In my case, I had a pretty good idea what the word could be after the third guess. Except that there was three possiblities. Trust me to guess the correct one on the third attempt!!

You can keep track of your performance you play on the same device. So far I've played three times, with 100% win rate. Today it took me six guesses, but I've done it in three and four guesses previously. You can also see how much longer you have to wait before you can play the next game. Each new game resets at midnight GMT every day.

The game is very simple, and normally you can finish it in a few minutes. This is great to have a break to do something different. However, during one play, I was stuck there for about ten minutes trying to think of a word, so you've been warned.

Some people like to always start off with the same word every time, that's what my husband does. I prefer to start off with whatever comes to mind on the day. Then I also read that some people get so desperate they go into the web page and search in the database for the word. That's just crazy and stupid. And sad!!

This is a game, a very easy one. It's suitable for anyone who knows basic English as all the words I've come across so far are simple five letter words. If you haven't tried it yet, have a go and let me know what you think about it.
