Hi All,
The result from Gameweek 32+ has been very interesting for both ends of the Premier League table; the relegation battle and the spots for Europe.
I am not sure which result shocked me more; is it sensational Sheffield United’s win over the inconsistent Spurs or is it the nail-biting London derby which saw West Ham beat Chelsea in the dying end of the match. Both results have massive ramifications in both ends current PL ladder;
Battle for European spots
Battle for Premier League Survival
West Ham 3 v Chelsea 2
Before the game, the Hammers were sitting on 17th position; hovering above the relegation zone, equal points with Villa and Bournemouth but having a better goal difference. With the victory over their local rivals, Chelsea. This result propelled the Hammers out of the danger of the drop zone to 16th position and with the help of Watford not winning at home against Southampton. Chelsea had everything to play for in this game, they had the chance to leap frog Leicester City in 3rd position, as the Foxes lost in the earlier game away to Everton. This was an opportunity missed for Chelsea to cement their top 4 finish and automatically qualify for Champions League football for next season. Massive 3 points for West Ham in their battle for their Premier League survival.
Sheffield United 3 v Tottenham 1
Sheffield United beating Spurs was the other shocking result of the round. Sheffield went into this game after a terrible display last week, as they were thumped by Manchester United. In the other hand; Spurs convincingly beat their London rival, West Ham. So both teams had something to prove, the inconsistence of Spurs was displayed yet again as they cannot string back to back victories since game week 28. Those shocking results are not near good enough for the Champion League finalist of last season. The honey moon period for Mourinho are well and truly over. Was it worth the sacking of Pochettino in the middle of the season? The Blades have a better chance to play some European football then Spurs!
In other results, as mentioned before; Leicester City lost to Everton. Since the appointment of Ancelotti, Everton were in the relegation zone. They are continuing to impress under his guidance, and stringing great results, which sees them moving upwards in the Premier League table. After the restart of the PL, the Foxes have not won a game and their Champions League spot is in danger, with Chelsea Manchester United and Wolves are breathing heavily behind them.
Manchester United is the only team besides Wolves that have won their game this week out of the teams that are battling for European positions. Yet again, Fernandes showed his quality and contributed with 2 goals as the Red Devils fend off Brighton. The seagulls are holding on for Premier League survival as they are only 6 points from the relegation zone.
Wolves have been impressive since the Premier League has resumed.
Since beating Villa away, Wolves have won all 3 games and kept 3 clean sheets. Wolves are 2 points adrift from the fourth-placed Chelsea following their defeat to West Ham. Can Nuno Santo lead his pack of wolves to play Champions League football next year? Aston Villa have been struggling with form, they have been fortunate as teams around them have been struggling also, so they have hope for survival. The Cottagers spent £146million on players, they need to hope a few of them can start producing some magic?
There is a lot of football to be play, the battle for European positions, the fight for survival continues. It’s all happening in the BEST league in the world.
Mathmatically, Norwich City have a chance to survive but it doesn’t seem likely. Which other teams would be relegated?
Can Wolves make the final Champions League spot? What a fair tail would that be for the team that were promoted 2 years ago!
Thanks for stopping by.
