Hi everyone, as someone who enjoys tarot cards, I figured this was the best prompt for me to write about this weekend. I think there is a sector of the population who is more in touch with their intuition, senses, and could possibly forecast future events. Do I think they all set up shop in a tiny office with crystals, palm figurines, and a Buddha statue in the window? Maybe only some. I know if I were walking past that window and saw a neon sign for five-dollar tarot readings, I'd want to go in. It's even better when it's a quaint and magical building.
Do I go in because I'm convinced this person knows my future? Not exactly. I go in for the experience and because I'm facing an uncertainty that just can't be assured by tangible surroundings. Our minds are always facing uncertainty, and some turn to a metaphysical approach to comfort the mind.
So, for five dollars, I get to go in and talk about myself to an objective listener who then draws some cards and offers a brand new perspective on the situation. It's not a bad deal, and it's cheaper than therapy.
Now, the question as to whether or not this profession is fraudulent and predatory toward the weak-minded. Of course there are psychics and tarot readers who are a sham, but not all of them. However, there are shams, frauds, and unscrupulous people in every working industry. I've had a tarot reader try to upsell me the whole time. I had one who added salt to my wound when I told her my problem. In these cases, I just don't go back.
All in all, it really boils down to the experience you have with the psychic. If they're personable and attentive, without being pushy about upgrades, I'm happy to hear their insight. These days, there's tarot apps, so we have computers to draw our cards. I have the Kawaii Tarot app on my phone, so the app draws my cards. Then, I try to interpret how the selected major and minor arcana fit into my life. It's fun and I've gotten some eerie readings from this deck. Although, sometimes, it's even more fun to go into a cozy and magical hole-in-the-wall and pay to have the cards chosen and interpreted by a stranger.
