They're excellent for hiking and other strenuous activity. I thought every German knew about this chocolate, and it was requirement for school supplies. :)

German music became a niche in North America, particularly the techno scene. I dreamed many times of going to the love parade. Germany was fascinating to me. Growing up, there was always the sense that Germans were mysterious and a bit dangerous, particularly from the East. The media played a big role in framing the narrative.

Canadians wave the flag once in a while, but we're not nationalistic. I think we should be more patriotic because right now we're a fractured society hiding under the umbrella of multi-culturalism. This is fantastic in times of peace, but in times of war, it can be troublesome if not everyone is pulling the same way.

I myself can consider myself lucky to have grown up in a time window between 70s and 90s in a non political household

The 90s were the best for music and other extracurricular activities (second only to the 60s in North America). I consider myself a classic liberal but began changing my tune starting on September 11, 2001.

I do hope that this war with Ukraine is over soon, and we can get back to the business of living in peace. I don't think Germany is in any danger, but the Ukraine war might be transformative now that the Russian Bear has shown its claws.

HaHa! I like this attitude of "mind your own business"

I read that Germans have a couple of sayings that share the same sentiment:

1. If everyone takes care of their own yard, then the entire neighbourhood will be clean.

2. If you set your neighbour's house on fire, then don't be surprised if sparks fall on your roof.
