Some of the trees in the province are centuries old, and I recently came across this great realistic demonstration for determining their ages. It's located in the Nature House on the shore of Stanley Park's lost lagoon. The illustrated cards in the following image show the year, going back to the 1800s, gleaned from the number of rings along the slice of wood.
This neat place is located right beside the duck-filled waters of Lost Lagoon.
I took a panoramic shot of this area.
As an aside, I'm not too crazy about how websites handle panoramic shots. I wish they could be embedded within a 3D interactive window that allows one to drag the image around to view in it's near-three dimensional totality. But anyway, that's just the coffee talking.
I have encountered all these creatures in the wild. The coyote was cool but unsettling
Fungus among us
I truly enjoyed how they brought all the elements to life in this place of exploration and discovery. Naturally, nothing beats the actual experience of raw unfiltered nature, but I feel that such places add a new layer of richness to the experience.
Thank you for visiting.
