Created by artist Wade Stephen Baker, the Gateway to Ancient Wisdom depicts the sun and two thunderbirds, which have a variety of symbolism in Coast Salish people's culture of the Canadian Pacific Northwest. They are a male and female chief in this context and also mirror the Twin Sisters mountains, seen in the distance. There are various myths from Coast Salish people about thunderbirds, who are said to be able to fly to the Sun and obtain ancient knowledge.
