Last year was a very wonderful one for Liverpool FC as a club. Apart from the fact that they won the champions league and were a close second to Manchester City in the Premier League, a lot of positives came from the season.
One major problem in my opinion that Liverpool has had in recent years was that their squad didn't have depth. After their first Eleven, the bench couldn't be called upon in tough times to salvage situations and it was a problem that they still had even last year. This was the only part in which Manchester city were better than them. Manchester city had a lot of squad depth, they had players on the bench who could come up and turn the game on its heads. Even last season on the road to the Champions League, they were knocked out of the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and their only focus was on the Champions League and Premier League.
But this season, they seem to have adequately taken care of that problem. In their Carabao Cup game against MK Dons a while back, their squad was made up largely of Academy boys who were hungry for success with just a few senior players to guide them. You could see the hunger in these boys to deliver. I remember clearly last season that it was Liverpool's first eleven who played their Carabao and FA Cup matches and they easily burnt out.
I expect it to be a better year in the FA Cup with the young players having the day against smaller teams and only bringing the big boys when the team advances to face the top dogs. This will definitely keep the team fresh and rejuvenated and help them go for a long time. And apart from the academy boys, there is also a depth on the bench that was previously not there. We now see Joe Gomes, Xerdan Shaqiri, James Milner, Adam Lallana and even last years Champion league hero Divock Origi on the bench waiting to come on and make a difference.
This team will definitely paint England an maybe Europe Red again this season. Do you agree with me?
