Every year around these dates, my beautiful city celebrates The Caribbean Festival, being the epicenter of this picturesque geography in the Fiesta del Fuego.
En cada edición se invita a un país distinto y se le dedica el festival, homenajeando sus tradiciones y su cultura. Este 42 aniversario se lo estamos dedicando a México y sus costumbres de celebración a la vida y la muerte.
In each edition, a different country is invited and the festival is dedicated to it, honoring its traditions and culture. We are dedicating this 42nd anniversary to Mexico and its customs of celebrating life and death.
Ha sido realmente hermoso verlos desfilar en este Desfile de la serpiente, que como cada 5 de julio tiene lugar en el marco del Festival.
It has been very nice to see them parade in this Snake Parade which, like every July 5th, takes place within the framework of the Festival.
Santiago de Cuba, declarada ciudad musical, orgullo de todos los santiagueros, es sin duda el lugar donde siempre encontrarás calor humano, nobleza en su gente y el carisma propio de su pueblo, capaz de inundar de alegría la más cruda realidad.
Los tiempos que corren en nuestro país son difíciles de abordar con una sonrisa, más, no queda opción. Cuesta entender algo como esto en medio del surrealismo que vive Cuba: necesidad, hambre, tristeza, represión. Sin embargo, siempre hay espacios que uno agradece, porque un pueblo no es su gobierno, un pueblo es su tradición, su costumbre, su fe. Por eso me hizo feliz toparme así de viva mi ciudad, lo necesitaba.
Santiago de Cuba, declared a musical city, the pride of all Santiago de Cuba, is undoubtedly the place where you will always find human warmth, nobility in its people and the charisma of its people, capable of flooding the harshest reality with joy.
The current times in our country are difficult to face with a smile, moreover, there is no option left. It is hard to understand something like this in the midst of the surrealism that Cuba is experiencing: need, hunger, sadness, repression. However, there are always spaces that one is grateful for, because a people is not their government, a people is their tradition, their custom, their faith. That's why it made me happy to run into my city like this, I needed it.
Sobre todo sirvió para mostrarle por primera vez a mi hijo una de las fiestas tradicionales de su ciudad, una ciudad que pronto nos tocará dejar atrás en busca de un futuro.
Above all, it corresponds to show my son for the first time one of the traditional festivals of his city, a city that we will soon have to leave behind in search of a future.
Fue una tarde hermosa que recordaré con nostalgia dentro de muy poco.
