A recent doodle I was working on. I rarely have straight lines in my work, I’m fascinated by nature and biomimicry. Some people say my work reminds them of indigenous art, but I think it’s just because of the simplicity and line work that is inherent in nature, which indigenous people are very connected to. There’s a lot of talk around cultural appropriation these days, and I think there’s a fine line between cultural inspiration, and being informed by that as an artist. Copying something directly from a culture without knowing anything about it, and wanting to capitalize off of it is a different thing. What are your thoughts on cultural appropriation in art?
