This is about scale, enormous dimensions and contrast!
La Sagrada Familia is an impossible building, defeating any concept one might have about what actually can be built...
A Leica M-8 with a Voightlander 15mm is far from the ideal tool for something like this, but that is what I had. The good thing is that all the weird colour aberations won't matter, even with this wide angle.
It is one of the few tourist "traps" that I've ever visited where you feel like you're almost alone even when there are people all over, the spaces and scale of it all provides for that.
There was lots of work going on all over the place, and the scaffolding was also on an enormous scale. In many ways I feel that it worked out well in the images, although the cathedral will be very different when its all finished of course!
Its quite something to visit a project like this where lots of the work was going on in plain sight, down to discussing details like here.
I guess it has a similar effect on most who visit, you kinda feel like losing your bearings inside of it all, especially when you've been far up in the towers, they are definitely otherworldly...
Even simply viewing it can require bending backwards! I don't think this guy even had a camera, maybe a phone that I did not see.
The main towers are brutal, but also elegant, I never felt any vertigo or fear of falling, they feel as solid as a mountain.
Of course the contrast is extreme too, outside there was sunshine while even a few meter into the structure it was pitch black. Which is why these images are rather rough.
This view of the city down there is very typical for Gaudi, the shape of the opening resembles his other works, the houses is what I'm thinking of.
Yet again I felt less vertigo than if I'd be peeking out from an ordinary skyscraper, maybe the architecture is what does that...
The 15mm has a really great thing with creating these stars, which fit very well in here!
I think the workers really enjoyed their work, also the workshops that were visible like this was probably finishing up details, so they might have been specialists finding ways of getting it right rather than doing the less artistic construction work.
Even outside it can be hard to get all of it in the frame!
For many of these images the black & white converter in Photoshop has been a great help, especially in this last one where bumping yellow up hard makes for nice contrast in the structure itself, and also pulling blue down gets the sky right without too much work.
Its been a bit of a challenge to edit these, and since I have a back that failed me big time there will be more, hopefully tomorrow.
