I got to drive trams like that one, probably even earlier tech, in the summer of 1996!
That was quite something, made any type of driving in any vehicle easy through all the years since then haha
You'll pull the wheel all the way to the left for breaking, at the right pace. Then up to the middle for neutral, then slowly all the way to the right for full power.
Get it wrong and you either skid along with no control, locked brakes and damaged wheels to the tune of ~10k, a lot in 96, or you'd trip the main fuse and lose all power.
All in the middle of busy traffic, people running around and whatnot!
It was great fun... Oh, and some of the old ones had some serious trouble learning to drive cars, when the instructor asked them to stop of course they yanked that steering wheel all the way to the left..............
