Just a short picture post for tree Tuesday of a monkey puzzle tree. This tree is native to Chile and Argentina but there are a few around town that seem to be doing just fine.
Monkeys have a hard time climbing on it because of the sharp spiny leaves, hence the name.
The tree is very interesting to look at, and described as a living fossil. The seeds of the tree are very tasty but it takes many years before the tree is mature enough to produce them. I just had to add a recent sunset picture I took. There are some more native trees silhouetted on the islands and land by the bay. I always like the look of the water in this area, the tide comes through a narrow passage way and creates a number of whirlpools. It can be dangerous for small boats. This is taken from a moving car.
