I played a short easy nine-basket disc golf course and did some putting practice today. I used my new Mantra disc. Flight numbers are 9 speed, 6 glide, -2 turn, and 1 fade.
It seems a little faster than a 9 speed, at least in the feel of the rim and flight of the disc. Maybe it is the 6 glide and under stability but it seemed like it was easier to get distance with it than the typical 9 speed disc that I bag.
It was windy and wet this morning so it was hard to give it a good test. I usually don't like to throw 6 glide discs in the wind. I would rate the turn at a -3 or more. Maybe it was the wind and not being used to how the disc likes to be thrown but it was turning a lot for me under the power part of the throw. It was controllable enough to allow me to play the course at even. (I would have had a -1 but I put too much hyzer on it thinking it was going to turn more in a headwind than it did and I threw it right under a tree.)
This is a heavier disc at 173 grams. I like a heavier disc when throwing forehand flicks. I think the weight helped just a bit in the wind too. For a distance backhand, I usually like a little lighter disc but I'm not sure if that would be good in this case because of how flippy it is.
I think I will bag it for a while but I'm very tempted to put it on the shelf because of the fancy graphics. I'm happy with the Insanity and Mamba discs for that flippy flight path so I'm not sure if I will bag the disc long term.
New umbrella and disc:
I got a new umbrella today to replace the one I lost. It is nice and compact and will be easy to carry both in my bag or cart. Best of all it was almost a quarter the cost of the giant disc golf-specific umbrellas they had for sale at the pro shop.
