I played a short nine hole practice round of disc golf at the local course today. It was kind of windy and I kept missing my putts high. The wind would get under the disc and send them sailing.
I did head over to my favorite eighteen basket course today because someone had found my son's disc while they were walking around near the the river. The course was still too wet to play and the road was closed off from flooding. It was great to get my son's disc back though.
He had hit a hole in one with the disc on a tournament and had it signed by everyone on the card.
I remember he was very upset when it sailed into the river on a windy day about nine months ago. We didn't think we would ever get it back.
It is interesting how the recent flood must have moved it out of the riverbed and stuck it into a muddy spot where someone found it. Sometimes things get taken away and sometimes they get given back. I was very thankful that the person who found it got it back to us.
The disc itself is nothing really special. It is a bit worn and has a big warped spot on it where my son had been gripping it extra tightly. But it does have some special meaning beyond the price of a brand new disc you could get out of the store.
Once you have played with a disc for long enough it flies in a way that only you can fully appreciate. Sometimes they do break in a bit too much and are not all that good for throwing any more but the history is still there.
