We played a short eighteen basket round this morning and met a new player on tee one who joined us. It was his first time playing the course and wanted to follow us so we invited him to join us.
He did not want us to score him but I thought he did pretty good for not knowing the course. I was playing alright and scored at even and my son won with a -2.
Tonight's after dinner treat:
The blackberries were from the yard and the watermelon was from the store. For a seedless watermelon it was really wonderful. I miss the dark red watermelon with the seeds you can spit all over the place though. We gave half the watermelon to the neighbors because they like them a lot too and it was a big one.
I've been thinking a lot about how we might cool the planet off a bit. As many of you know air-conditioning just moves heat from one place to another and uses a lot of energy to do it which generates more heat. If you have ever stood next to an air-conditioning compressor coil you can tell it makes a lot of heat.
Most urban areas are hotter than the surrounding countryside because of this and the asphalt and other heat generating machinery.
I'm no expert on this but I was just wondering if we could bury the heat generating part of the air-conditioning systems down in the ground? This would keep the air temperature cooler in the cities and if we used solar power to run the air-conditioner the net effect would be to put the solar heat somewhere where it would not be such an issue.
It seems like we could run heat pumps more efficiently too because the ground temperature would be warmer that the colder air temperature at the surface in the winter.
Just an idea - I'm not sure how feasible it is. I'm sure it would cost more initially to install air-conditioners this way.
