This is Lilioceris cheni which is a species of small beetle with a bright red charm and they also have an important role in the ecosystem as a controller of invasive weeds, especially wild taro plants or known in scientific language as "lepidium microphyllum", even though the body size of Lilioceris cheni is relatively small, they are believed to be very effective in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem, maybe for some people it is still unfamiliar with this beautiful beetle species, but this insect has played a big role in environmental conservation efforts in various places.
This beetle has a simple but effective life cycle, the female This is Lilioceris lays eggs on the underside of the mouse taro leaves (I will share in the next post about their eggs), the eggs will hatch and then become larvae and begin to eat the leaves of the plants where they are, according to scientific research that has been done that the major damage that occurs is caused by the larvae, after they eat enough leaves the next stage they will turn into pupae and finally they become adult beetles as you can see in the photo, after they become adults and they continue to eat the leaves of the plant but the damage is not as big as that caused by the larvae, however if their population is large it can create damage to the plants around them.
