There were rumors that Canon will introduce their version of mirrorles full frame camera at the Photokina fair this year. Obviously, Nikon’s early announcement of its mirrorless models last week has forced Canon to put a “leak” through Nokishita, keeping a foot to the doors of very lucrative new market segment…
Unlike Nikon, Canon has leaked only one model, Named Canon EOS R, and Nokishita even leaked 15 pages of specs…
The main difference — it seems there will be NO in-body image stabilization in this model. Canon obviously stays firm to their philosophy that lenses should be stabilized, and not the body.
Thanks to Nokishita, we also have a back side photo which reveals interesting new control point — Customizable M-Fn Bar (marked with red line). According to the spec list, it should allow four types of actions — left, right, slide and press completely. In Shooting mode it can be assigned for control of ISO speed, White balance, Check focus/Display info, Movie shooting, Flexible-priority AE, AF, and User customization.
In Playback mode it serves as Function shortcut and Jump display.
Lenses and adapters
Canon has also prepared four RF lenses and three adapters, which will allow use of all EF and EF-s (with crop) lenses. So far, there’s no word about possible EF-m adapter. All of new RF lenses has one more control ring which will probably be programmable.
Lenses:
Canon RF 28-70mm F/2L USM
Canon RF 50mm F/1.2L USM
Canon RF 35mm F/1.8 Macro IS STM
Canon RF 24-105mm F/4L IS USM
Three adapters: -- Mount adapter EF–EOS R -- Control ring mount adapter EF–EOS R -- Drop-in filter mount adapter EF–EOS R”
The surpise is unique Canon RF 28-70mm F/2L USM, which have Canon’s L-designation for professional quality (and price).

At the end of our short preview, there is one more observation: from the photos leaked by Nokishita, it seems like Canon has again made wrong choice with ON-OFF dial, making it to the most atrocious position, but we shall wait to see it after the official announcement, scheduled for September 5th, so stay tuned… :)
