The Garden of Saint Alessio, or Giardino Di Sant' Alessio in Italian, is a cozy tranquil park on the Eastern bank of river Tiber. It's altitude is just perfect - it is so high above the river that it actually cannot be seen or heard, unless of course one steps on that brick fence and risks their life.
The park is really beautiful and quiet as at its other side, the brick wall is probably triple the height thus minimizing if not totally eliminating the sporadic sounds of the few cars passing by the narrow street touching the park from the Eastern side. Also, the very few parking slots are not of a big capacity so people are used to just walk there and leave there vehicles behind. So, despite the huge size of the city, the air to breath there is clean.
However, only a few will probably stay relaxing on the benches under the shadows of the park trees because the eyes and the bodies of the visitors are naturally attracted to the high-angle views over the Eternal City.
Here is that special point where one could walk by foot, look over and above almost all of the landmarks of the capital, and all that for free :)
Here, and in the nearby Garden of Oranges, or Giardino degli Aranci in Italian, I met many artists - painters, street musicians, photographers. You probably know the pleasure of spending some time among such "artistic souls", don't you? :)
I so much enjoyed the views, and I also enjoyed the people who have been enjoying the park with its magnificent perspectives over The City. I bet you will recognize some of those famous landmarks... and if you happen to visit that spot during the autumn, the clouds will play for you a unique play to underline the beauty of it all!
