9.5 reasons why you should invest into a good tripod...
... of course, if you haven't got one already.
1. De-crowding a photo.
When you travel to beautiful destinations, especially well known ones, the chance to bump into a crowd and people entering your frame is big. The longer the exposure, the less noticeable and recognizable the people in your photo will be.
2. Tripods give artistic freedom.
One instance of this is the technique called zoom-burst where a zoom-lens focal length is changed while the shutter is open; or simply said, zooming-out while shooting. I recommend that over zooming-in, speaking from my own experience. Zooming out gives much better control over the photo.
Yeah, sometimes the results could be too artistic, LOL, sometimes just perfect.
3. Some scenes are impossible to shoot with no tripod.
Here, this photo of Aurora Borealis I took in the Polar circle is an excellent example. Your eyes may see the Northern Lights to some extent but a good camera with fast lens on a sturdy tripod will show you much more beauty!
4. You can create all sorts of silly selfies
Yup, that scene above reminded me of my pathetic efforts to take a proper selfie while taking long-exposure pics of The Lights at -20 degrees Celsius. :D
5. You want to join the group photo you are supposed to take?
Not a problem at all. Set the tripod, set the delayed shutter and make everyone jump for fun results. Don't be surprised if someone stands in front of you! :D
6. It is under your full control how high to put the camera from the ground when shooting.
Sometimes the angle and the perspective change the feel and the message of the photo. Check out the top photo above if you need a visual proof.
7. Turn street lights and car lights into stars and light-paintings
Yup, can't do that with no tripod either!
8. Utilize the best quality out possible by you camera.
Sunsets, sunrises, we all love them. Trust me, there is a huge difference if the ISO of your photo is 100 or 1600. And those moments are known as low-light ones.
9. Blur waters and create beautiful milky reflections.
This could also be done during daytime, with ND filters. The tripod is a must here too.
...and now, drum roll, here comes:
9.5. A tripod makes you look much more professional!
In the era of influencers and onlyfansers, you will all agree, I guess, that the outlook is important :)
Of course, there are plenty of other reasons why a good tripod is an excellent investment, but I liked the number 9.5 so maybe I'll create another list sometimes :)
Here are two quickies... you could use your tripod as a hiking pole. Trust me on that, once mine saved my life exactly with that feature. Or you could use your tripod as protection from wild or stray animals...
So, the bigger the tripod, the bigger the respect! :D
