Gas station, pump activation is from human manual activation, I changed 3 pumps till it worked
Went to a the gas station to fuel up the other day. I stood there holding down the nozzle trigger for a good one minute and nothing started moving, so I got back into my car and drove to a second pump and tried again.
The same thing happened at the second pump, I stood there for a good 2 minutes and nothing was flowing through, and I thought "Oh man, I'm having bad luck today, two pumps I tried were not working".
So third time lucky, I moved my car to the third pump hoping for it to work. I put the nozzle in and waited, and after a few seconds, the fuel started to flow through.
When I went to pay, I told the gas station attendant that the 2 pumps were not working and he told me something that I was surprised to find out.
It appears that the pumps needed to be manually activated by him, this is so that kids won't just walk up and start to spill fuel all over the place. They need visual confirmation that there is a car there before pushing the activate button.
The reason that the first 2 pumps didn't working for me was because he was helping a customer use the coffee machine and didn’t push the activate button in time.
It made sense why the pumps would be manually activated after he explained to me, I just always assumed that that they were automatic.
