Woman had to get the idea of putting black around their eyes from somewhere.
My guess is they first got the idea from seeing an animal that they thought looked fierce.
Perhaps it was a raccoon, or perhaps it was these guys.
Eye shadow or maybe it was eye liner, but it was something.
